Congress Approves Measure to Release Jeffrey Epstein Records

The Senate on this Tuesday quickly approved to a bill that will force the release of case documents associated with the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, following a near-unanimous vote in the House of Representatives and a reversal by the president and his Republican allies. The administration gave in after an extended period of trying to delay the joint action involving a controversy that has followed the president since his return to the White House.

Expedited Passage in Both Chambers

The Senate acted by consensus, which needs acceptance from each senator but avoids a individual voting process, expediting the process. Just before, the House overwhelmingly approved the bill on a massive majority.

Citizens have waited long enough. The survivors have waited long enough,” the top Senate Democrat said in a Senate remarks on Tuesday, before requesting the Senate to pass it unanimously. “Let the truth come out. Let transparency reign.”

Presidential Signature

The measure next will be sent to Trump for his approval. Trump signaled on Monday that he would approve the bill.

Though the president has for months dismissed the uproar over the official management of the Epstein case as a “Democrat hoax”, he signalled his support for the measure over the past few days, and announced he would give his assent if it comes to him.

Reaction

Democrats, along with victims and their advocates who were watching from a House gallery, broke into applause after the bill was approved. The sole “no” vote came from a GOP representative, who said he feared the measure would make public identifying details of witnesses, those under scrutiny and others implicated in the investigation.
